Wild Card: The Courage to do the Impossible.

Writer's picture: Crystal CabraeCrystal Cabrae

When I set out to start the Own Your Truth Challenge six months ago, it was the sixth project I had set out to do in my life. I was determined just I had been the last five times I had set out to "make a business" and the gears continued to turn but something was different this time. Monetarily I was still about the same: not much wiggle room for frivolous things like business cards or a marketing team. My skills had been honed by years of trial and error, but I wouldn't call them the ultimate skills out there. So what had changed? Curious? Walk with me.

The Own Your Truth Challenge started out as a test for myself and what I needed to do in my life. The constant question of how I was going to hold myself accountable for the things I did throughout my day nagged at me. Now, mind you, nothing in this challenge I made up on my own. This was like the SparkNotes that I took from years of feeling out every free course, book, and pamphlet the world had to offer. I combed article after article trying to find the best books to read so I wasn't wasting money on crap like I was in the past. And I don't say all this to be all "look at me, I did my homework" but more to highlight the amount of freaking effort it takes to try to better yourself on your own. It is no surprise that most people just give up after the month of January because who has the time for all this extra effort?

Most of us, unfortunately, are broke. I don't mean broke like you live under a bridge broke (at least I hope not) but if we go out for dinner, we're not going for the $110 golden flaked chicken nuggets. Reading and taking classes gets freaking pricey and then you have to make time to go to the class, pay for gas, parking, damn I'm already tired and I haven't even left the house. Most of us are too busy paying bills to be bothered with all that extra shiz. And if you have kids or a full-time career, absolutely not.

Taking it back to a time of more promise, I had decided in October of 2019 that in one year I was going to be moving to L.A. come hell or high water (looooooooooord if I only knew how high the water). That meant I had to get a schedule, make some money, and do my thang. I started school in January 2020 online to FINALLY get my bachelor's degree. And then we all know what happens next. F*&^&%! pandemic rolls around and the time I thought I had to "take it easy" was thrown out the window. If I wasn't "helping the front lines" at Target, I was either doing homework, budgeting my pennies, or comparing apartments. Without a schedule and a decent meal plan, I might've not made it here to even write this article. Without holding myself accountable for my action and habits, I would've been living off of Pizza Hut breadsticks because they were "convenient" and "easy".

It's hard to keep our cool even when the little things happen to us. It has been even harder with a pandemic, global warming, and crazy people in general consistently disrupting our lives. Life is one of those things we didn't as for, yet here we are. We have to make the best of it and protect the things that make us, well, us. It is our duty to the inhibited little kids that live inside all of us to really tap into ourselves as people and own our truths. So what changed this time as I opened my computer and set out to make another business? This was a program that literally got me from a basement in Jersey to a nice apartment in L.A. in one year during a freaking pandemic. It was the metamorphosis that I witnessed in myself that made me want to share it with everyone else. As I write this, I have already helped one person besides myself and am at the beginning of a journey to help my second explorer. No matter where this course leads, I have already succeeded. If you are inspired to take the challenge, go to https://www.crystalwordvomit.com/oytc and sign up today! Hope to see you guys there!

This article was written with the spirit of play and the motivation to improv yourself every day in little ways. It all adds up in the end. Until next week!

Expand Your Mind...

Let's face it, language learning isn't easy. But it can be fun and ultimately unite us across Lahnds and Rehlms. All we have to do is expand our minds. This is easiest understood by those who speak Earth English, but other languages from other places may also understand this language lesson.

Tip #1: Laugh every time you mess up and then try again. Every mistake is an opportunity to learn and grow. Embrace it!
