Wild Card: Friday is a State of Mind
So for those that have been the never-ending saga that is life, you may have heard me mention from time to time that having Mondays off were the best thing in the world. Now if you ask me, having Monday be your Friday is like having a pizza party while everyone else got soup. Confused? Walk with me.
We as people need to obviously get out of bed and brave the day until we get to feel the sweet release of our body collapsing on the bed. Only to wake up and do it all over again. Romantic isn't it? But then there are those oh so sweet Thursdays that are alive with an energy that trickles into the rest of the weekend until Sunday's hangover has us perfectly grumpy for Monday. Well, what if I told you that the euphoric feeling that you get at the end of the week could be placed at any time in the week? What if you could feel the joy you have for Fridays on Mondays? Don't think it's possible? Neither did I until it was.
Normal people get Saturday and Sunday off. At the job I work at now, they are closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. It was the oddest thing I thought I'd hear in my life, but I rolled with it. This shift in the week proved to me that the state of mind that we carry about time can be changed. You have no idea how weird it was to have Sunday and Monday off for almost a whole year to then switch into having Tuesday Wednesday off. Normal people would only get a Tuesday off if they had some kind of appointment they couldn't fit in on the weekends. It showed me an outside perspective of the single-minded flow we have been taught to have. Now here's where it gets even weirder.
So I have a weird schedule and my soon-to-be husband has the normal one. He works 8hr days Monday-Friday and gets the weekend off, so our days off never are in sync. The weird part is because we are excited for different days to come, there is always the electric energy of Friday being right around the corner. It doesn't matter if he has to work or we both have to work, one of us is always closer to "Friday". And this change in perspective I think is really important because our habits reflect our lives. If we are always grumpy Monday people and only get lit on Fridays, what does that say about the limitations that we put on ourselves? What does it tell us about how we see our routine? If you are only feeling happy once a week, I think it's time to shake up the routine.
Being able to go on an adventure on a Monday or a Wednesday sounds like a late-night trip to the grocery store or some ice cream, but it can be so much more than that. If you try and make most of your days of the week special, you will have had a special life. So take the leap and try to see what happens when you smile on a Monday or take the day to do nothing but relax on a random Tuesday.
