Wild Card: Embrace the Fears

Writer's picture: Crystal CabraeCrystal Cabrae

Sloth. (n.d.). World Wildlife. photograph. https://www.worldwildlife.org/species/sloth.

According to this week's episode of unCUMfortable, this 7 Deadly Sin that we should be focusing on is sloth, so I decided to post a picture of a sloth. This also happens to be the scariest photo I could find of a sloth because they terrify the shit out of me. And as I started this article with all the gusto in the world, I can't seem to type fast enough to get this hairy monster out of my view. But if I stop typing, then it will be staring at me for all eternity, dooming me to a lifetime of looking at this sloth picture. Does your brain do the same thing when it comes to your personal fears? Walk with me.

Our fears are obviously drawn from us wanting to protect us from threats (like slow, creepy smiling sloths) that are, well, threatening. But some of them we know are irrational (like heights). This week, the adult fear we are going to tackle this week is money. Jen Sincero got a whole book to dispel those fears, but for the sake of today I'm going to talk about the number 1 fear that we have about money: there is never enough.

Never enough money. It's a line I heard my entire life and found myself saying often. I'm not here to say, if you change your attitude then money will start raining from the sky and all will be well in life. What I will say though is if you get serious, serious things will start to happen. When I first think of money, I think of debt. It's a bad habit, but I think most of us gravitate to some form of that. Bills, student loans, that one guy you lent $5 for the bus that you never paid back. It adds up and unless you had a yacht at the beginning of the year, it's a big chance that the last stimi check was like Xmas part 2. Even if we don't have any money, there is nothing stopping us from making more. If we continue to sit here and not try to make things happen, nothing is ever going to happen. SO what can ya do?

Dream. Plan. Go big or don't bother. Think of the house, the car, the dog, the human you want to sleep next to every freaking day. Whatever you think that money can afford and you want more than anything else, write it down. Make a vision board and tack it above your bed, and figure out the exact number you need to achieve that vision. There are a million ways to make money and a million more unknown ideas you have yet to create. SO go out there, dream big dreams, and make them happen. And if you don't know where to start, start with this.

This was written in the spirit of play and to encourage you to tackle your adult fears today. We all have them but if we tackle them one by one, we will begin to hold the power instead of the fears holding power over us. Until next week guys!

Expand Your Mind...

Let's face it, language learning isn't easy. But it can be fun and ultimately unite us across Lahnds and Rehlms. All we have to do is expand our minds. This is easiest understood by those who speak Earth English, but other languages from other places may also understand this language lesson.

Tip #1: Laugh every time you mess up and then try again. Every mistake is an opportunity to learn and grow. Embrace it!
