NaNoWriMo Series: Writing Tip #24
Updated: May 20, 2024
With six days left in NaNoWriMo, this seems like the perfect time to bring this very important point. Burnout. Even when we are at our best we can burn ourselves out creatively. Seasonal depression may creep in and suck our creativity dry. something may happen at anytime that will sap out the will to do anything creative for weeks or even months. Making sure that you are tuned into your everyday needs are imperative to your overall health as a writer and a human. Creatives tend to be sensitive individuals that need a little more time to recharge after working on large project. There was a fantastic post that I saw the other day that said
Rest is not a reward for progress. Rest is part of the process. - @positivelypresent via insta
Be kind to yourself and ask yourself a few of these questions to check in with yourself in this moment:
Even if I haven't been writing as consistently as I would like to/anticipated, do I need a break? Why or why not?
How long of a break would I like to take? Why?
When was the last time I took a break?
Is it possible for me to take a break now, even if it will set my goals back a bit? Why or why not?
