Character Analysis: Get To Know Jeanette Miller

The many faces of Jeanette Miller

Though Alvin and the Chipmunks have been around since the 60s, they would be nothing without their Chipette counterparts. It should not come as a surprise that my favorite Chipette is Jeanette. Aside from being Simon's other half, she is a timid beauty who has a big brain and a big heart. She is normally overshadowed by her sisters, so most tend to look past her. So, let's get to know our girl with the purple shades and understand why she is a true diamond in the rough.

Jeanette is the girl that gets no shine. Her timid personality and clumsy nature fluctuate between the various versions over the years, but one thing always stays the same. This girl is smart. Arguably smarter than Simon, Jeanette is always in the middle of a calculation or off studying space. Jeanette at times can be a bit absent-minded, putting her behind socially compared to her more extroverted sisters. Though obviously in love with Simon, the two are shy about their relationship. In the third CGI movie, the couple gets a bit of the spotlight as Simon swept Jeanette off her feet, showing fans what the two have the potential to achieve. It was the first time that Jeanette was depicted as a confident girl who could dance just as well as her sisters and still keep her glasses on. Over the years, Jeanette has been known to have a strong friendship with Alvin, as she admires his confidence and asks for advice. Jeanette tries to stop Brittany from her irrational ideas but is often overshadowed by Eleanor's firmer hand. While normally defended by her sisters without hesitation, she can sometimes be made fun of by them for her ditsy and timid nature. In more recent portrayals of Jeanette, she has appeared more gullible and ditsy, but it doesn't take away from the fact that this Chipette has a heart of gold and would do anything for her sisters and the Chipmunks.

Growing up, I have always resonated with Jeanette the most. I've always wanted this girl to have that moment where she transforms into someone more "Brittany standard" and everyone turns their heads as she walks by. Maybe it's a little cliche at this point, but this girl deserves a jaw-dropping moment. Her outfits always drew me in because they always seemed the most comfortable out of the Chipettes. Even if she doesn't have many lines to draw off of, I can hear her dialogue in my head clear as day. A timid girl waiting for the right moment to shine. All Jeanette needs is a little nudge from her sisters.
