Character Analysis: Get To Know Dr. Drakken
Updated: May 20, 2024
There are times in Kim Possible when you look back and notice that many of the best moments have to be with Dr. Drakken. Yes, he is known to be more of an idiot than other characters in the show, he is an icon in his own right and takes the second-best villain award out of the whole show. His origin story may shock you and his funky fresh raps might leave you in stitches by the time he's done. He is my absolute favorite for many reasons, so let's just dive into what makes this blue-skinned villain worth loving.
Sporting a blue villain coat and black gloves, Drew Lipsky is one of the funniest villains in this show. With more dimensions than a Rubix Cube, Dr. Drakken used to be old college buddies with Kim Possible's father. With his skin evolving from normal to blue, he sought out villainy to take over the world and prove that he was the best. He never gives up and is always coming up with a new scheme. Relying on Shego for more than just her fighting skills, he often ropes her into situations that could have been avoided had he thought the whole plan through. Whether it's note cards so he doesn't forget his dream plans, or just trying to brainwash everyone in a talent contest, Drakken is anything short of boring. Yes, his mother may pop in from time to time and he has to pretend he's a radio host, but that is besides the point. What's important is that he plots to be the best super villain in the world and one day defeat Kim Possible. He has a bad habit of forgetting things that Shego remembers, including Ron Stoppable's name. It doesn't mean he's going to let a little thing like adversity get him down. It just means he has to try harder and conjure up a plan so brilliant, that it will bust him out of his jail cell and far away from his annoying cell roommate. In the meantime, he'll just wait for Shego.
In my opinion, Drakken is the most clever scientist yet the worst super villain ever. Maybe that's what makes him so loveable. He can often be a bit insecure and turn to Shego for encouragement. Everything he does is to prove he's superior and all he wants is some respect from the world that he lives in. Maybe not the best way to go about it, but it is something to admire. I mean taking over the world is a hard thing to do. Especially when you have no idea how to do it. At least he has a bunch of henchmen to lean on while he figures it out.
