I can talk about Alvin and the Chipmunks more than I can talk about most things. There was a time that the dialogue for these characters would take up prime real-estate in my mind. And through the years, getting to know Alvin Seville was a bit of a roller coaster. On some days he was the loud-mouthed, overly confident, red hat-wearing chipmunk we all know. On other days, he'd be a bit more emotional and even doubtful at times. It showed me that throughout the journey of Alvin and his brothers, Alvin is a chipmunk you can't help but love. So, let's get to know what lies behind the big, yellow A.

Known for the A on his chest and the cap on his head, Alvin Seville lives to be in the spotlight. He dreams of stardom and fame that will bring him all the ladies. Though it's no secret that he's in love with Brittany, his Chipette counterpart. Though normally found in the middle of a petty argument, it is shown throughout their history that the only girl for Alvin is Brittany Miller. Being the oldest of the Chipmunks, Alvin is surprisingly protective of his brothers (even if he often leads them into mischief). His emotions fluctuate based on the circumstance and his free spirit nature is the reason why Dave is always shouting his name into the void. In the earlier parts of the 60s, Alvin was always portrayed as lazy and trying to get out of something. That trait, I believe, has transformed into entitlement, and his belief that he is a rockstar makes him above doing work. Alvin is the advocate of fun and he will do what he wants when he wants, even if it means having to risk getting in trouble.

I'm not gonna lie, Alvin can be a real pain to watch. Between butting heads with Simon or getting Theodore in trouble, it's hard to find things to love about this guy. But as you watch how he stands up to the bullies or helps the Chipettes in their troubles, you notice that Alvin isn't such a bad guy after all. He may be loud, be he just wants to let the good times keep rolling. And I think we could all use a bit more of that kind of energy in our lives. I mean who doesn't want to be famous and swim in cash?

Who do you want to meet next? Will it be Theodore, Dave, or someone else entirely? Stay tuned to find out!

Expand Your Mind...

Let's face it, language learning isn't easy. But it can be fun and ultimately unite us across Lahnds and Rehlms. All we have to do is expand our minds. This is easiest understood by those who speak Earth English, but other languages from other places may also understand this language lesson.

Tip #1: Laugh every time you mess up and then try again. Every mistake is an opportunity to learn and grow. Embrace it!
